Android Error 923: Unable to Download Application

If you ever encounter error 923 when downloading an application on your Android device, this may be due to either a memory problem, or a synchronization error with your Google account. This tutorial will walk you through how to navigate around this error, and proceed with your download.

How To Fix Android Error 923

Before beginning, you should ensure that there is sufficient memory left on your phone, and on your SD card.

Go to Settings > Applications > All. Select Google Play Store, and clear the cache and data.

Restart your phone for the changes to take effect.

If the above manipulation doesn't work, try going to Settings > Accounts > Google. Delete your current account, and turn off your phone.

Next, restart your phone using Recovery mode. You can do this by pressing the Home + Volume Up + Power buttons.

A menu will appear. You can navigate through the menu using the volume keys

Select Wipe Cache Partition > Clear Cache.

How To Create a Bootable USB Installer for OS X El Capitan

This procedure explains how to create an installation key for Mac OS X El Capitan using a USB key. This method will work for OS X El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, and Mountain Lion updates.

How To Make an El Capitan Install Drive with a USB

El Capitan Information Pages on Apple.com

Before beginning, you may want to familiarize yourself with the upgrade process, and hardware requirements necessary for the El Capitan installation.

Pre-Requisites for the El Capitan Update

There are several prerequisites necessary for a successful installment of El Capitan. A list of requirements for the compatible models can be found below.

Compatible Macs

MacBook (released early 2015), MacBook (aluminum series released late 2008 - early 2009 or later),
MacBook Pro (released mid/late 2007 or newer models),
MacBook Air (released late 2008 or newer models),
Mac Mini (released early 2009 or newer models),
Mac (released mid 2007 or newer models),
Mac Pro (released early 2008 or newer),
Xserve (released early 2009).

Requirements

OS X 10.6.8 or later, 2GB of RAM (minimum),
8GB of storage space,
Some features require an Apple ID
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; extra charges may apply.

STEP 1: Download El Capitan

Launch the Apple App Store, and sign-in using your iCloud account. Click on OS X El Capitan >Download to begin the download process. The El Capitan download will utilize about 6GB of space.

Once the installation package has been downloaded, it will launch automatically. Do not click onContinue

You may quit the installation by clicking on the Install OS X menu > Quit Install OS X. Leave the installation package (Install OS X El Capitan) in the Applications folder, and proceed to the next step.

STEP 2: Prepare the USB Installation

You will need a blank 8GB USB key. Connect the USB key to your Mac and launch the Disk Utilitylocated in Applications > Utilities. Select your USB drive (not its existing partition, but the physical key itself). Click on Partition Layout and select 1 partition. Next, select the Optionbutton, making sure that GUID Partition Table is selected. Click OK

Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the default format for the drive. Rename your USB key to something more significant (e.g. elcapitan) and make a note of it somewhere. You will need the exact name for a terminal command in STEP 3

Click on Apply > OK

STEP 3: Creating the Installation Key

Launch the Terminal application located in Applications > Utilities and type the below command:

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/e/name_of_USB --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app --nointeraction

Replace name_of_USB with the name you have chosen for your USB key.

Confirm with the Enter key, and type your administrator password when prompted. Let the process unfold until the Terminal window says Done

Your OS X El Capitan installation USB key is now ready.

Updating from OS X Snow Leopard and Leopard

Additional steps are required when updating from Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.x)

Click on the Apple menu > Update software. Update to Mac OS X 10.6.8 before downloading El Capitan from the App Store.

Unfortunately, El Capitan will install directly onto your Mac. You will need to download it once more to get the installation package (installer). If you have Leopard (Mac OS 10.5) and would like to upgrade to El Capitan, you must first purchase and install OS X Snow Leopard

Remarks

This method creates a USB key called Install OS X El Capitan. The key contains an installer (installation package) named as Install OS X El Capitan. To perform an installation from the USB key, connect it to your Mac and then boot the key while holding the Alt key down. Boot from the USB key and then follow the onscreen procedure to install the new operating system.

N.B. If at any point the installation procedure seems to stall, just let it be. Despite appearances, the installation procedure is likely just working slowly.

How to Prevent Safari from Opening Downloaded Files

Safari automatically opens downloaded files it considers as Safe. It may include compressed files, PDF, pictures, videos and other type of files downloaded from trusted sources. But what if a virus or malware was hidden in one of these so-called safe files? You might want to turn off this feature (enabled by default) for your own good.

Method 1 - From Safari's settings

Launch Safari, click on the Safari menu > Preferences. Go to the General tab and clear the Open "safe" files after downloading checkbox.

Method 2 - Using the terminal

Open a terminal and run the following command: defaults write com.apple.Safari AutoOpenSafeDownloads -boolean NO

Download WhatsApp Photos via Dropbox

A friend has a book publishing business and have customers across the country who sell these books. They are old-school businesses that always relied on paper-based forms and fax for sending orders but now that they have WhatsApp on their mobile phones, they write their requirements on paper, snap an image and send it via WhatsApp. On this side, the received WhatsApp images are saved to the computer, printed and sent to the respective departments for processing.

The problem with the workflow is that there are quite a few steps involved after the WhatsApp image is received. Since WhatsApp neither offers a desktop client and nor does it allow integration with services like IFTTT or Zapier, the incoming images have to manually transferred from the phone to computer for sending to the printer. Is there a way to automate these steps? Yes.
When a photograph, or any media file, is received inside WhatsApp, it is automatically saved to the phone’s physical memory. The media is downloaded without you having to open the corresponding message (we are dealing with Android here, the iPhone version of WhatsApp may work differently).
Now that we know that the incoming image file is on the phone’s SD card, all we need is way to automatically transfer the file to our computer. That’s where Dropbox or Google Drive can help.

Download WhatsApp Photos to Computer

We can watch the Media folder of WhatsApp and as soon as a new file is added to that folder, it is automatically synced with Dropbox. MetaCtrl has Android apps for Dropbox, Google Drive and Box that can help here.
  1. Open your Dropbox and create a folder, say WhatsApp.
  2. Launch the DropSync app and authorize it to access your Dropbox account.
  3. Set the Local (watch) folder as/storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images and set the Dropbox folder as the one that you created in Step #1.
  4. Set the sync method as “Upload only” so that it is not a 2-way sync and only WhatsApp images are sent to Dropbox but not the other way.
  5. Go to the app settings and change the Autosync Interval to 5 minutes (the default is an hour).
That’s it. Within minutes of you getting an image on WhatsApp, it will be sent to your Dropbox account in the cloud and since you have Dropbox running on your desktop too, the image will be downloaded on the computer as well.

Automatically Printing the WhatsApp Photos

The next step is to send these images from the Dropbox folder to your printer connected to the computer.
This isn’t difficult either. You can open this Windows Printing script on the computer and it will automatically send images from the Dropbox folder to the printer. A similar remote printing option is available for Mac and Linux as well.
Please do however note that this will download and print all WhatsApp images so you want to have a human layer that discards the non-essential ones.

Where to Download Microsoft Office 2013?

Microsoft is expected to release a new version of Office, called Microsoft Office 2013 (or Office 15) early next year. The new Office, the release version of which is already available for download to MSDN and TechNet subscribers, sports a minimalist interface and, among other features, is very tightly integrated with SkyDrive.

If you aren’t an MSDN/Technet subscriber, you can still download and install Microsoft Office 2013 as long as your computer is running Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Option A: You can go to office.com/preview and download the full-featured edition of Office 2013 that includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, and Microsoft Access (no Visio here). You can install this version on up to 5 PCs using your Microsoft account.
This is actually Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium Preview and what’s unique here is that you can get Office running on your computer within minutes of hitting the install button. This uses Microsoft’s Click-To-Run installation technology – you just have to download a 500KB installer and it “streams” the Microsoft Office applications to your computer.
The downside is that you have to install the entire Office package and second, this isn’t the final release of Office but a “preview” edition (version 15.0.4128.1025).
Option B: The other option is that you download the Microsoft Office 2013 installer from the Technet website (all you need is a Windows Live ID). Unlike the preview edition of Office, this one is the “final” Office Professional Plus 2013 release (version 15.0.4433.1506) that will continue to work for 60 days from the date of installation.
In order to install this version of Office, you’ll be required to download the full MSI installer (666 MB, OfficeProfessionalPlus_x86_en-us.img) but the advantage is that you can choose which Office programs should be installed on the computer.

Which Microsoft Office 2013 edition should I download?

Microsoft Office 2013 Pro is available as a 60-day trial while there’s no exact expiry date fixed for Office 365 Preview. Microsoft says that Office Preview will expire approximately 60 days after Office 2013 becomes available in that market. You will thus have more time to play with Office 2013 with the preview release.
Office 365 Preview can be installed alongside an older copy of Microsoft Office whereas in the case of Office 2013 Professional, it will override your existing installation.
One more thing. The Office 2013 preview release streams very quickly (click to run) and you don’t even have to be an administrator of your computer to install it. That’s not the case with Office 2013 Pro.
Microsoft hasn’t specified an exact release date for Microsoft Office 2013 but if you buy a licence of Microsoft Office 2010 now, you will get a free upgrade to Office 2013.

Download Mac Updates Once and Install on Multiple Computers

Mac OS X updates are huge with the installation files running into several gigabytes. The same is true for Mac apps like iMovie or Microsoft Office that have massive installers. The problem is compounded when you own multiple Mac computers and you need to upgrade them all to the latest OS X update. It will not just take too much time but you may end up consuming your monthly download bandwidth.

A simple and obvious workaround to the problem is that you download the installer files on one Mac machine and then transfer the downloaded apps to all your other systems through AirDrop or WiFi. The Apple website says that “Apps [downloaded] from the Mac App Store may be used on any Macs that you own or control for your personal use.” This is however easier said than done.

Install Mac OS X Updates on Multiple Macs

You download a 5 GB Mac OS X installer from the App Store, the machine restarts, your system is upgraded to Mac OS X Yosemite or El Capitan but wait, where has the installer disappeared? Your Mac, in a bid to save space, deletes the original installer automatically after the upgrade and thus you cannot reuse it on other machines.
To get around the problem, after the installer has downloaded, quit the installation routine and do not restart the machine. Go to the ~/Applications folder on your Mac, find the installer file and Option+Drag it to another folder like ~/Downloads to make a copy that will stay even after the machine is restarted.
For minor updates, like OS X 10.10.8 or 10.10.9 updates, Apple releases standalone installers as .dmg files that you can download once and install on multiple machines. The releases are available as incremental updates (containing only changed files) or combo updates (all changed files since the last major release).
A simple Google search for “download mac ox x 10.10. combo” will reveal the direct download links for the .dmg files on the Apple support website.

Install Mac Apps from the App Store

In the case of apps downloaded from the Mac App Store, you’ll find the .app files in your /Applications or /Users/username/Applications folder that you can easily copy to your other Mac machines. Internally though, the App Store downloads the installer as a package file (with a .pkg extension) and this will not reside in the Applications folder but in a separate hidden folder.
You can grab these Installer Package files and install the same Mac app on other machines without having to download it again thus saving data. To get started, open terminal on your Mac and run the following command to know where the App Store has downloaded the installer files:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
Now open the Mac App Store app and you’ll see a new Debug menu (see screenshot). Click the “Show Download Folder” menu and it will open the location of the download folder inside Finder where the Mac apps are temporarily download. You can find the .pkg files inside one of the sub folders that you copy to your other Mac systems via Airdrop.

How to Download your YouTube Videos

While there are quite a few software tools and apps available that let you download videos from YouTube for offline watching, you don’t really need them anymore if you are looking to download your own videos from the YouTube website.

The easiest way to download an individual YouTube video is through the Video Manager. While you are logged into YouTube, click your email address on the upper right and choose “Video Manager” from the menu. Now click the Edit button next to any YouTube video that you wish to download and choose “Download MP4” to download that video as an MPEG-4 file.

Download YouTube Videos in High Resolution

This method has been around for a while now but a big limitation is that the quality of the downloaded videos isn’t the same as your original clips. Your 720p and 1080p HD video will be saved at 480p.
If this limitation has been keeping you from hosting any of your videos on YouTube, worry no more. You now have an option to download all your YouTube videos in their original resolution – whether its SD or HD. Here’s how:
  1. Go to google.com/takeout and click the Create Archive button. Google will now create a zipped archived with all the videos that you have ever uploaded to YouTube.
  2. Once the archive says 100%, proceed to the Downloads tab to grab the actual files. If the archive is large, Google Takeout will split them into individual files of 2 GB each.
The downside is that you have to download the entire archives – there’s no option to download individual video in high resolution. That said, if you are planning to copy videos from YouTube to Vimeo or another video hosting service but don’t have access to the source video files, you’ll find this new option extremely handy.

How To Install Windows 10 Insider Preview (Build 10130)

While Microsoft is working on the next version of Windows, you can get your hands on the latest preview that's available for free to anyone. You can sign up for this program, download the latest test version and install it on your computer or in a virtual machine. Here's how to get Windows 10 (Build 10130) and how to install it on your computer:

Signing up for the Windows Insider program

In order to download Windows 10 Insider Preview, you must sign up for the Windows Insider program. You need to have a Microsoft account to do this.
Go to the Windows Insider website and click or tap the Get Started button. Sign in with your Microsoft account.
You are shown the Participation Agreement and the Privacy Statement. You need to accept them to finish your registration. Scroll down and accept the Program Agreement, select your areas of interest and press the Submit button.
After submitting, you will be officially enrolled in the Windows Insider program. To download the ISO image file for installing Windows 10 from scratch, go to this address: Download Windows 10 Insider Preview ISO.
But, before you download Windows 10, read the next section in this guide.

Things to Keep in Mind

The Insider Preview version is a test version. Windows 10 still has many bugs, unfinished features and other issues like this. We strongly recommend that you do not install this as your main operating system on your computer. We recommend installing it in a dual-boot configuration, on a secondary PC or in a virtual machine.
The best virtualization applications that we have tested, which are capable of running Windows 10 are VMware PlayerVMware Player Pro and VMware WorkstationVMware Playeris the only free product in this list.
Before you decide whether or not to install Windows 10, be sure to read the FAQ section on the Windows Insider website, and review its system requirements. Windows 10 demands the following:
  • Processor: 1 GHz or faster, single core or multi core
  • RAM: 1 GB for the 32-bit version or 2GB for the 64-bit one
  • Free hard disk space: 16 GB
  • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
  • A Microsoft account and Internet access
Basically, if your PC can run Windows 8.1, you're good to go.
After you review the requirements, you can decide if you need a 32-bit or a 64-bit version of Windows 10. Scroll down the download page, click the language that you want the system to be in and then download the appropriate ISO file.

Also, write down the product key mentioned on the download page. You may be asked to enter it, in order to validate your test version of Windows 10. At the time this article was written, the Windows 10 product key was: 6P99N-YF42M-TPGBG-9VMJP-YKHCF. This will work only until the final version of Windows 10 is released, and only with Insider Preview versions of Windows 10.

How To Install Windows 10 Insider Preview

After you have downloaded the ISO file, you should burn it onto a DVD or use the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool to copy it onto a USB flash drive. You'll want to use this if your computer does not have an optical drive or you simply want the installation to go faster. If you are installing Windows 10 in a virtual machine, you don't need to burn the ISO or copy it, you'll just mount it before you start the virtual machine.
Now it's time to turn on your virtual machine or boot your computer using the DVD or the USB flash drive that you created, with the Windows 10 setup.
Once the necessary files are copied, the setup starts by asking what language, time, currency and keyboard input settings you want to use. Make the selections you prefer and click Next.

Click or tap Install now to start the installation.

As we mentioned earlier, you may be asked to enter the product key for Windows 10. If that happens, enter it. If not, you'll be shown the license terms. Click or tap "I accept the license terms" and then Next.
Next, you are asked for the installation type. As you are installing Windows 10 from scratch, click or tap "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)".
Now you are asked to select where you want to install Windows. Select the partition that you want to use for Windows 10 and press Next.
The installation starts. The setup takes a few minutes to copy all the required files and install the Windows 10 operating system.
Once the installation is done, the setup program will automatically reboot your system several times, to run the first-time configuration scripts. You just need to wait patiently for the process to finish.

How To Personalize Your Windows 10 Installation

After the reboots are finished, you are greeted with a first-time setup message, where you can select whether you want to use the Windows 10 recommended settings or customize each setting individually. We prefer to customize everything, so let's press Customize settingsand review each setting together.
Windows 10 asks you if you agree to send information such as contacts and calendar details, typing data or your location to Microsoft and/or some of their trusted partners. For each type of information, you can use the appropriate switch in order to send it or not. When you're done, press Next.
You are now able to set the default behavior of your browser, networks and error reports. You can enable the SmartScreen online services, choose if you want Windows browsers to preload pages, automatically connect to open hotspots and so on. Change the things you are interested in and click or tap Next.
You are now asked to confirm the ownership of your Windows 10 device. If you are its owner, select I do. If the device belongs to an organization (for example, the company you work at), select My organization, and you will be able to use your company account in order to sign in and access your resources. We chose the I do option.
You are asked to sign in with your Microsoft account. Enter your credentials and click or tapSign in.
After entering your email and password, in order to sign in, Windows 10 recommends that you create and use a PIN, instead of your password. We also recommend that you do that, because the PIN you create only works for the device you're installing Windows 10 on now. If you use your Microsoft account on more than one device, each of them has its own PIN. To create a PIN, click or tap PIN me!. Otherwise, select Skip this step.
You will have to enter the PIN you want twice, for confirmation. Note that, by default, a PIN has 4 digits. However, if you want to use more (or fewer) digits, you can deselect the option to "Use a 4-digit PIN". Once you're done, press OK.
And then… you get to meet Cortana, your personal assistant. This screen is purely informative, so after taking a quick look at what Cortana can do for you, click or tap Next.
Windows 10 takes a while to prepare your computer, your apps and all the settings. The process may also involve a restart. When it’s done, you are logged into Windows 10 and you can view the Desktop.
Congratulations, you have installed Windows 10 Insider Preview!

Conclusion

At least so far, the Windows 10 installation process is similar to that of Windows 8.1. Things may change in upcoming test builds so this may not be how the final setup process will look like. Before you go, we would like to remind you that you should not install the Insider Preview as your main operating system. It is best to use it as a secondary operating system or to install it in a virtual machine. We hope that you found this guide useful and, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask in the comments section below.
